Incomprehensible! Because a patient in a clinic in Mannheim, Germany, felt disturbed by the sound of her bed neighbour’s oxygen device, she would have simply switched off the device. The 79-year-old was then in mortal danger and even had to be resuscitated.
On Tuesday around 8 p.m., the patient is said to have turned off the fan in her bed neighbor for the first time! Fortunately, the hospital staff noticed the problem in time and turned the vital oxygen supply back on. The 72-year-old was urgently advised that the oxygen supply was vital and that the device should never be turned off.
But the elderly woman was not deterred by this, shortly afterwards, around 9 p.m., she should have turned off the device again, the police and OM announced on Thursday. The fatal result: the 79-year-old suffered a respiratory arrest, had to be resuscitated and then treated in intensive care.
Detention on suspicion of manslaughter
The Mannheim public prosecutor’s office applied for an arrest warrant against the 72-year-old at the court in Mannheim on Wednesday. The suspect was taken into custody – sufficiently recovered – on suspicion of attempted manslaughter.
“It is not everyday for us either,” a police spokeswoman said about the incident on Tuesday evening. Whether the two women knew each other is being investigated.
