There is excitement in the Viennese motorcycle scene. A group wants to put an end to two-wheelers with combustion engines with a petition.
For many motorcyclists, this is the most wonderful time of the year. But it could – at least for Viennese motorcyclists – be one of the last motorcycle seasons. If there is a new initiative, two-wheelers with combustion engines should be banned from the cityscape by 2025.
Especially the exhaust gases and the noise are criticized. And with a petition (leise-saubere-mopeds.info) the initiators want to get the town hall to ban combustion engines and to promote electric two-wheelers. That creates excitement.
“You would expropriate tens of thousands of people”
Ferdinand Fischer, spokesman for the two-wheeler trade, doesn’t think the idea is funny at all: “The exact opposite is the case. Motorcycles take up less space and emit far fewer emissions than cars. You should really support that.” The ARBÖ is also critical of the case: “You would expropriate tens of thousands of people here.”
Initiator Torsten Decker will appreciate this heated discussion: “Our goal is to identify the problems, especially with old models. A complete ban from 2025 is probably a bit too ambitious.”
