Almost two weeks after the strong earthquake that killed more than 330 people, the Indonesian island of Java was again rocked by an earthquake on Saturday. The center of the magnitude 5.7 earthquake was 11 miles southeast of the city of Banjar in West Java province, the United States Earthquake Monitoring Station (USGS) said Saturday.
There were initially no reports of casualties or major damage. The Indonesian weather agency spoke of an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4. The quakes were also felt in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta.
More than 300 dead in earthquake two weeks ago
According to authorities, the magnitude 5.6 earthquake on November 21 killed 331 people and injured thousands. Due to Indonesia’s location on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are common in the Southeast Asian country.
