This year’s Christmas lights were lit in Bethlehem in the West Bank on Saturday night. Countless people watch the ceremony in front of the Church of the Nativity. Bethlehem is considered the birthplace of Jesus.
Bethlehem, which borders Jerusalem to the north, is part of the Palestinian Autonomous Territory and is considered the birthplace of Jesus. Every year during the Christmas season, countless visitors and devout Christians flock to the West Bank city.
The Christmas tree lights also went on in the Vatican on Saturday evening. Before that, a huge wooden nativity scene was unveiled. This year the tree comes from Palena, a town in Abruzzo. It is 26 meters high and should shine until January 8.
