A motorcyclist from Germany must have had a real armada of guardian angels on Friday afternoon when she rode with her partner on the mountain road from Au towards Damüls. The 53-year-old slipped on a bridge and was thrown over a wall into a ravine.
Around 4 p.m., the 53-year-old German woman and her partner rode their motorcycle along the Faschinastrasse (L 193) from Au towards Damüls. On the Großtobel Bridge, the driver slid on her bicycle for unknown reasons in the left bend.
Slipped over the dike into the ravine
The woman therefore collided uncontrollably with the bridge wall, was thrown over the bridge wall by the force of the impact and fell more than ten meters onto an embankment behind the bridge. But the victim still did not come to rest: on the steep terrain she slid another 45 meters down towards the Mitteltobelbach.
Mountain rescue and fire brigade in action
The partner alerted rescuers and climbed into the ravine to his wife to provide first aid. Both people then had to be rescued from the gorge using a crane by the Au mountain rescue service, with assistance from the Egg fire brigade. The good news: the 53-year-old miraculously suffered only minor injuries, but was flown to Reuthe Hospital for further treatment as a precaution.
