According to a report in the newspaper “Hammihan”, a commander of the security forces has been arrested in Iran after the murder of a football fan. The case made the news last week.
After the Iranian national team lost the World Cup, security forces in the coastal town of Bandar Ansali killed a 27-year-old who was believed to have celebrated the defeat.
It was initially unclear whether the commander should have shot himself and what the consequences would be.
In Iran, until the departure of the national team, there were discussions about whether the team should be supported at the World Cup given the massive state violence against demonstrators. After the defeat against the US, many spontaneously expressed their glee.
