He babbles and staggers – Putin drunk? Video feeds speculation

Date:

He babbles, staggers and apparently clings to a champagne glass – with a bizarre video Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin has now attracted attention and ridicule. In a speech to soldiers on Thursday, the warmonger seemed quite enlightened. In confused terms, he defended the attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure. He blames the neighboring country: “Who started it? Who attacked the Crimean bridge?” asked the 70-year-old almost defiantly in a long monologue.

In fact, you are not used to such performances from Putin: unlike his predecessor Boris Yeltsin in the 1990s, the Russian president is not considered a drinker. But a video circulating on social media is currently sparking debate: During a speech at the “Heroes of Russia” ceremony, the warmonger appears dazed, waves a champagne glass in his hand and appears to stagger and babble several times.

In the speech itself, he ended up making absurd claims. Ukraine is responsible for Russia attacking energy infrastructure with missiles. “Yes, we do,” he openly admitted. The explosion on the Crimean bridge was one of the reasons for these attacks, Putin claimed. However, experts are sure that these missile attacks were planned for much longer – the army could not have collected the target coordinates in just a few days, the researchers of the Institute for War Studies are convinced.

Putin accuses Ukraine of “act of genocide”.
Putin went on to say that Kiev would not supply water to the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, calling it an “act of genocide”. He lamented, “Nobody says a word about it. But as soon as we take a step, in response to something, a burst of noise and chatter erupts through the universe.” But that doesn’t stop him from achieving his military goals.

Expert: He always talks nonsense”
“This is the first time I’ve seen Putin drunk in any way,” said Russia expert Anders Aslund, puzzled by the bizarre appearance. “He’s rubbish as usual, but seems to realize he’s a loser,” the author wrote on Twitter. He described the speech as “interesting and promising” and hopes: “All Russians will see that he is drunk and weak.”
