Heavy respiratory protection was needed for the emergency services to get the fire in a transformer in Kapfenberg-Diemlach (Styria) under control on Tuesday night. This caused a power outage.
On Tuesday, the Kapfenberg-Diemlach fire brigade was alerted at 01.27 am for a fire in an electrical installation on Gustav-Kramer-Straße.
“After the investigation and feedback from the electricity company that the object was dead, the extinguishing work was immediately carried out with heavy respiratory protection started,” reports Jürgen Niss of the Kapfenberg-Diemlach volunteer fire brigade.
Thermal imaging camera in action
The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished. The system was then checked with a thermal imager and it was finally possible to “shoot out”.
However, due to the fire, many households along Gustav-Kramer-Strasse lost electricity.
