A “Krone” reader says thank you: a woman he did not know paid for the groceries of the pensioner from Graz in the supermarket – “just like that”.
“Can I pay for your purchase?” – With this question at the checkout of the Spar supermarket at Graz main station, an unknown woman put the retired Gottfried Obermayer in disbelief on Wednesday. “I was surprised and wondered where the hidden camera is?”, the 73-year-old tells the “Krone”.
Generous stranger paid more than 30 euros
“After I have at least retired and still have to turn over every euro three times, I said ‘yes, please'”, says the man from Graz. And actually it was no joke: the lady paid the groceries worth more than 30 euros in cash.
The curious thing about this remarkable generosity: Gottfried Obermayer had never seen the woman before and did not know her either. “I thanked her and thought I saw her again in front of the store, but then she was already gone.”
That is why the “Krone” reader would like to thank the woman again through the newspaper. A wish that we are happy to fulfill – because in difficult times like these, such a gesture is a strong sign of humanity and togetherness.
