The climate activists of the group “Erde brennt” want to end the occupation of lecture hall C1 at the University of Vienna on Monday evening. A demonstration will then be held to “remind politicians of their duties”.
The group announced this on Twitter. The demonstration starts at 6 pm, the route leads from the University of Vienna (Universitätsring 1) to the Ministry of Education at Minoritenplatz. On this occasion, they “wanted to be loud together and remind the university and politicians of their duties,” it said.
Even after the withdrawal from the university, the protest is not over yet. “On the contrary: the protest has only just begun,” said the activists. They reportedly occupied a lecture hall in mid-November to demand a “radical system change”. This should enable social crises, the education crisis, but above all the climate crisis to be overcome. There would have been between 30 and 50 people on site. Concrete demands are, for example, the end of fossil fuels, more money for universities and taxes on wealth.
Activists also occupied lecture halls at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Boku), at the Academy of Fine Arts, in Innsbruck and Salzburg.
