Half a million euros gone – scammed on the phone: the bank has to pay for the damage

Date:

A telebanking customer was brought in by a scammer – her savings were gone within 15 days. Now the Carinthian is complaining to the bank: should the financial institutions take a closer look when so much money flows from accounts abroad in such a short time?

Hardly a day goes by without the police having to report a coup d’état by those perfidious phone scammers who use cousin tricks or other lousy tricks to steal money from the pockets of mostly elderly people. People often work with fear for the children or other family members, sometimes it is also about money. A woman from Villach was recently taken in by a particularly brutal crook: “She just had a larger amount of a house sale in her account,” says her lawyer Hans Gradischnig. “When a supposed financial advisor contacted her by phone who wanted to invest her money profitably, she fell for it.”
