According to security sources, at least eight police officers were injured in a bomb attack in southeastern Turkey. According to Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, the explosive device exploded in a parked vehicle on Friday morning as police officers drove by in a minibus.
The officials were on their way to work in Diyarbakir. Two suspects have been arrested.
None of the injured were seriously injured. The minibus was armored. Initially, no one claimed responsibility for the attack. In Turkey, attacks were carried out by Kurdish and left-wing extremists as well as Islamists.
Attack is reminiscent of explosion in Istanbul
In November, a bomb explosion killed six and injured dozens in Istanbul. Dozens of people were arrested, including a Syrian woman. No one has claimed responsibility for this attack either. The government blames Kurdish extremists.
Both the Kurdish Workers’ Party PKK, classified as a terrorist organization by the European Union and the United States, and the Kurdish-led alliance SDF in Syria have denied involvement. Turkey has said several times in recent weeks that it is preparing for a possible ground offensive in northern Syria.
