They allegedly revealed personal information about Elon Musk
The social network Twitter has blocked the accounts of several journalists from some of the major media outlets in the United States after they allegedly violated the platform’s terms by revealing personal information about tycoon Elon Musk.
In particular, the journalists of media outlets such as “The New York Times”, “The Washington Post” or the CNN chain had reported on the ban on a Twitter account that published real-time updates on the whereabouts of the billionaire’s private jet, reports CNN.
During the day on Wednesday, Musk reported that Twitter would suspend any account that provides real-time location information on anyone, claiming it is “a breach of physical security.” This prohibition also included posting links to sites with real-time location information.
“Criticizing me all day is fine, but posting my locations in real time and endangering my family is not,” the platform’s owner said in a tweet.
This Thursday, after blocking the accounts of several American journalists, the tycoon defended itself by assuring that the FBI would open an investigation if someone published the journalists’ addresses and locations in real time.
“If someone published real-time locations and addresses of ‘The New York Times’ reporters, the FBI would investigate, there would be hearings on Capitol Hill and (Joe) Biden would give speeches about the end of democracy” , ironized Musk. only to publish a survey shortly afterwards asking users if they should de-profile journalists.
These bans raise a series of questions about the future of the platform, as after being acquired by the billionaire in early November, Twitter has shared its aspirations to defend free speech, even going so far as to close the account of the former United States president. Donald Trump, who had been suspended since the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
