Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has threatened attacks against NATO countries. Forces and objects in countries that are officially at war with Russia or allies of the enemy are legitimate targets for attack, Medvedev said. The deputy head of the Russian Security Council also included NATO.
Because the Western military alliance had long since declared Russia a “hybrid war,” the 57-year-old claimed in his Telegram channel on Friday. A confidant of Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin interpreted the massive arms shipments to Ukraine, against which Moscow has been waging its offensive war since February, as an attack on Russia.
“The leaders of the NATO countries are unanimous that their countries and the entire alliance are not fighting against Russia. But everyone understands that it is very different,” Medvedev said.
Energy supply “legitimate target”
According to Medvedev, in addition to the enemy’s political leadership and forces and their technology, objects of military and civilian infrastructure such as bridges and energy supplies are legitimate targets for attacks. He made his statements as Moscow’s armed forces once again crippled Ukraine’s power supply with massive rocket attacks.
