Because he lost 865 euros on the escape of a fellow prisoner, a native Turk must now be detained for three months longer. At the trial in Innsbruck, the 35-year-old actually did not want to see that he had committed a criminal offense due to the embezzlement.
“Mr Alderman, for once I am innocent in court,” said the 35-year-old, who has nearly a dozen previous convictions and is currently serving five years in prison for burglaries in Innsbruck. But judge Gerhard Melichar ultimately saw it differently.
Transfer papers were filled in incorrectly
It was a “friendship deal” with a fellow prisoner that actually brought the native Turk to the wharf for fraud. “He needed €100 in the form of a Paysafe code, so he was looking for someone who had an account outside the prison. I then helped him for a can of tobacco,” explains the 35-year-old.
865 euros transferred instead of 100 euros
But the fellow inmate filled out the transfer papers incorrectly. Not 100 euros, but 865 euros ended up in the hands of the suspect. “I had to chuckle and was of course happy when I saw how much the idiot transferred by accident,” admitted the “burglar king”, who had gone into hiding during a day off. “I was on the run for a month at the time, so I could use the 865 euros,” the 35-year-old made no secret of the fact that he had squandered the money. He did not want to see that he had also made himself punishable. “I’ll just pay him back now and it’s settled.”
Bitter tears in the courtroom
He didn’t get off that easily. The judge imposed an extra three months in prison for the embezzlement, after which the suspect started crying. The fact that he stepped off lightly barely dried his tears.
