A bathroom break with fatal consequences: When two Swiss (24 and 26 years old) had to go to the toilet on the way to Ischgl on Friday evening to celebrate, the duo slid over an embankment near Pians (Landeck district) and then fell five meters down over a wall the highway.
It should have been a great party night in the Tyrolean winter sports mecca – but for the two Swiss this ended after the “pre-glow” on the way there. The drunk men wanted to go to Ischgl with their colleagues to celebrate properly. At Pians, however, they had to go to the toilet and took a bathroom break at the Piannerhöhe.
Slipped over an embankment and fell
But the ‘relief’ did not go according to plan: ‘Because they were drunk, the young men held on to a road sign, which gave way and fell over the embankment,’ police say. The duo then lost their balance, also slipped down the snow-covered embankment and finally fell off a wall about five meters high on the B188 Paznauntalstraße below.
Taken to hospital by ambulance
The Swiss hit the asphalt and were seriously injured. After receiving first aid from the alerted rescue services on the scene, they were taken to hospital in Zams.
