Longs for peace – Pope Francis celebrates his 86th birthday


Pope Francis celebrates his 86th birthday on Saturday. Congratulations to the leader of the Catholic Church came to the Vatican from all over the world. It is Jorge Bergoglio’s tenth birthday as pope. No special celebrations are planned. It was a day like any other for the head of the Church, beginning with morning Mass at the Vatican Hospital. On his special day, he wishes peace.

Italian Head of State Sergio Mattarella congratulated the Pope on his birthday on behalf of all Italians. Congratulations also came from the Italian Bishops’ Conference CEI. Roman mayor Roberto Gualtieri conveyed the congratulations of all Romans to the pope.

When asked what gift he would like, the pope replied in an interview with the Spanish daily ABC: “Peace in the world. How many wars are there in the world! The situation in Ukraine affects us the most, but also think of Myanmar, Yemen, Syria, where fighting has been going on for 13 years…”

Pope suffers from knee problems

Bergoglio did not expect to be elected pope in 2013
On March 13, 2023, Jorge Bergoglio will celebrate his tenth birthday as pope. Of his election taking the public by surprise, the pope said, “Me too. I booked my plane ticket back to Buenos Aires in time for Palm Sunday. I was very calm.” When asked what he found most difficult about being pope, Francis answered: “Not being able to go out into the street, not being able to leave the house.
