Until mid 2023 – City of Vienna extends “Energy Support Plus”

Date:

The city of Vienna is expanding the “Energy support plus” campaign for low-income people. The goal is to help pay the gas and electricity bill. The approximately 200,000 eligible households can apply for the subsidy of up to 500 euros not only by the end of the year, but no later than 30 June 2023.

For the additional, broader “Energy bonus 22” of 200 euros, 53.7 million euros have now been paid out to almost 269,000 applicants. He keeps his word, emphasized Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) in a broadcast: “We will support the Vienna as long as the current wave of inflation continues, so that they too can handle this crisis well.”

Energy prices remain high
As energy prices remain high and there are no signs of a rapid easing, the state government has decided to extend the “Energy Support Plus”. After all, some would only receive their annual statement in the spring, so “some Viennese will only have payment problems in the spring”, explains Peter Hacker (SPÖ), alderman for Social Affairs, why the campaign was extended.

Increased to 26 million euros
The budget for the subsidy on the energy bill – processed through direct orders to the relevant energy company – was increased in October from six to 26 million euros. Wiener with a low income (estimated at 200,000) can apply online until mid-2023 – with an attached invoice.

An estimated 650,000 households (of which 303,713 have already done so) can apply for the energy bonus of 200 euros online by March 31, using the password sent by letter. Income limits of 40,000 euros apply to single-person households (over 18 years of age, main residence in Vienna on 10 November 2022) or 100,000 euros for multiple main homes.
