The stitches were removed during the day, but in the evening the wound between the legs suddenly started to bleed. The man from the district of Waidhofen an der Thaya nervously drove to the hospital in the district capital. A doctor there spoke to him in broken German, and meaningful understanding was difficult. “It’s bleeding,” was the doctor’s unsurprising diagnosis.
Sent to Hoorn without treatment
The man was sent to the hospital in Horn untreated. This is now the new standard of the State Health Service (LGA): the practice in Waidhofen is unoccupied after 7 p.m. on weekdays and weekends, which is currently causing a lot of excitement in the region, the “Krone” reported. Calamities, ie sudden events that endanger lives, are accommodated there. But no broken bones – or the man’s bleeding wound.
Only after two hours in the “real” hospital
But before the man was allowed to drive to Horn, he had to wait 45 minutes for the doctor’s note (see facsimile above), which tells the story in broken German. After another half hour of driving, the patient – meanwhile a bit panicked by the bleeding – finally arrived at the correct hospital, where he was quickly helped. “It’s a disaster to experience something like that,” he says.
LGA refers to general practitioners
For minor wound care, bruises or wounds, the LGA usually refers to general practitioners, so also after 7 p.m. and on weekends. Otherwise, there is the option of going to a hospital that provides the required service. You can find out what is possible via the website, the clinics or the emergency number 144.
