For the first time there is a majority for Scottish independence from Great Britain. It could be a defiant response after Britain’s Supreme Court banned a referendum.
If something is forbidden to children, they want it all the more – it seems to be the same with people. Until now there had been no majority in Scotland for independence from Great Britain. With the UK Supreme Court’s ruling in November, in which the judges banned a referendum on secession without London’s prior consent, the mood shifted – apparently in some sort of defiant reaction.
Method still unclear
While before the Supreme Court decision 44 percent of Scots were in favor and 45 percent against independence, a new survey shows the trend has reversed: 49 percent of Scots currently want to leave the UK, only 45 percent are against, and the rest are still undecided. Prime Minister Sturgeon, a supporter of independence, wants to decide in March how to proceed.
