By the end of the year, violations and reports of illegal explosives increased. As part of a focus campaign against banned fireworks in Vienna-Floridsdorf, officials secured a total of 442 fireworks, according to a broadcast Sunday. The police are also investigating the explosion of an air conditioning unit in an office container in Vienna-Liesing, the explosion of which had alarmed numerous passers-by and residents.
In Floridsdorf, three young people were reported after they were stopped by uniformed officers in a train with a bag full of explosives shortly after 4 p.m. Moments later, around 6 p.m., officers heard a loud bang near the station.
Two youths on the run
When they searched the park, they found two other youths who immediately fled. They left behind a bag of illegal fireworks and two brass knuckles, which were confiscated by the police.
Another pyrotechnic case
At midnight, another fireworks incident took place in Liesing, which woke many from their sleep: with the help of passers-by and witnesses, the officials discovered an office container whose air conditioning system had apparently blown up and fallen out of its anchorage. The perpetrator or perpetrators had long since disappeared and the police took over the investigation.
