Virus rages in China – Corona chaos: doctor collapses during treatment

Date:

After the relaxation of China’s strict zero-Covid strategy, many hospitals are facing an onslaught of infected people. Health workers are under enormous pressure, the overload sometimes having serious consequences, according to a surveillance video from a clinic in Sichuan province.

The hospital admissions provide a perfect picture of the corona chaos currently reigning in China: a doctor is examining a small child when he suddenly loses consciousness. The medic slumps in his chair and slides under the table. Colleagues come to the doctor’s aid.

Queues for emergency care
The photos from Sichuan are probably no exception at this point, as the emergency room is overcrowded.
Those seeking help have to wait in long lines for up to five or six hours – and the doctors treat them without a break.

Moving away from zero Covid policy
After nationwide protests and a slump in foreign trade in November, the People’s Republic began moving away from its strict zero-Covid policy a few days ago. However, the corona figures were already on the rise.

In any case, the country is ill-prepared for the abrupt turnaround of Chinese leadership: millions of elderly people are still not fully vaccinated and underfunded hospitals lack capacity.
