A burning paper container in the toilet facility caused a fire alarm at Pinkafeld high school on Thursday morning. The Pinkafeld city fire brigade was able to quickly bring the fire under control.
The Pinkafeld city fire department had to respond to a fire at the high school in the morning. The fire was discovered at around 10.15 am by a student in a cubicle of the toilet facility on the ground floor. Attempts to control the fire with a hand fire extinguisher failed. When the first responders from the city fire brigade arrived, the evacuation of the school had already been completed. When the door was opened, thick black smoke was already flowing towards the respiratory protection team of the Pinkafeld city fire brigade. The source of the fire was in the toilet block. The quick action of the emergency services prevented worse events.
“The fire was extinguished after just a few minutes. The source of the fire was a paper dispenser in a toilet. After extinguishing the fire, the building was ventilated using a pressurized fan,” said city fire chief Kurt Tripamer.
The district fire investigator was able to determine that the cause of the fire was the introduction of an open flame into the toilet roll holder. No one was injured by the fire or smoke. The extent of the damage is currently unknown. Further police investigation is ongoing.
