Just before Christmas, a disabled pensioner from Lower Austria is without money. Because her “swallowed” ATM card has not been returned to her – no more buying gifts.
“Now my Erika can’t buy presents anymore. The Christmas joy is gone,” Friedrich Gravogl (70) from Eschenau in the Lilienfeld district describes the dilemma surrounding the confiscated debit card in neighboring Traisen.
No debit card despite eviction
The fact that Erika Steiner was cut off from her pension, which was already not high, is due to a paper jam in the transfer machine. Because his partner is physically disabled, Gravogl took it upon himself to make a donation to the “Red Noses” charity, as he has done so many times. The card has been swallowed. However, the young employee refused to return it, despite his ID.
Now the 73-year-old is eagerly awaiting a replacement for her house bank in Upper Austria. Gravogl: “That can’t be done before the festival.”
Correct action by the bank
The savings bank deeply regrets the chaining, but emphasizes that the employee acted correctly: “For security reasons and to protect the customer, we could no longer hand over the card, since Mr. Gravogl does not own it.”
