Touching gesture in Leibnitz: In mid-December, a 72-year-old from the Leibnitz district fell victim to a scam in which the perpetrators pretended to be her son over the phone, who allegedly needed money quickly. The woman transferred 3,000 euros to the specified account.

However, after a phone call with her son, she realized she had been a victim of scammers and filed a police report. Two police officers from Leibnitz managed to get the money back!

350 percent more such crimes
With about 880 reports per month (preliminary figures) and a much higher number of unreported cases, the so-called “daughter-son trick” was one of the most common and widespread scams in Austria, according to the Federal Criminal Investigation Service (BK). mid-December 2022.
