Their house in Elbigenalp in Tyrol’s Lechtal was on fire two weeks ago, when Ute and Herbert Baldauf experienced an enormous willingness to help beyond the village limits. They can therefore celebrate Christmas in their own home again, the gratitude is great.
Not much was missing – and Ute and Herbert Baldauf from Elbigenalp would not have had their own roof over their heads on Christmas Eve. A little bit of luck and many supporters now take care of Christmas with the greatest gratitude.
But first of all: it is the bitterly cold night of December 13, minus 17 degrees. The couple is already in bed at 11 p.m. when the siren sounds. “I went out on the terrace and looked at Hotel Alpenrose to see if everything was okay. We were the previous owners.” But then a curtain of fire falls from above: “Sir, we are on fire!”
Neighbor called the fire department
Neighbor Bernhard Wasle is suddenly there, he has already warned the fire brigade, the rafter is burning beyond the ridge. From the neighbour’s house, the couple can see how the fire brigade quickly arrives and controls the flames. “What they did with this cold weather was incredible.” The enormous willingness to help starts there: in the Panorama building, Oliver Koch prepares tea and soup so that everyone can warm up.
Craftsman ready immediately
The wave of support continued the next day: Master carpenter Pirmin Knittel from Bach covered the roof with tarpaulins and immediately prepared it for winter. Mayor Markus Gerber seconded two neighborhood workers. Chimney renovator Wolfgang Sima from Weißenbach is already at the door and chimney sweep Heiner Ginther from Elmen gives the go-ahead after the work. It was a fire from the pellet installation that had spread through the chimney to the roof.
The water damage is surprisingly small – and because the dehumidification company ETS also comes and plumber Christian Schrötter from Weißenbach seals the roof in sub-zero temperatures and snow, the Baldaufs can quickly return to their home. The damage is covered by the insurance. The fact that the children can come to the house in Elbigenalp and celebrate with their parents makes this Christmas very special.
