A man harassed several passengers on the Opernring in central Vienna on Friday afternoon. When Wiener Linien security personnel entered, the 58-year-old suspect suddenly pulled out a jackknife.
Around 5:50 p.m., security guards were called for help. “When the security personnel wanted to clarify the situation, the 58-year-old allegedly threatened the two with a knife,” said police spokesman Barbara Gass.
Moments later, law enforcement officers were on the scene and arrested the suspect and also secured the murder weapon. The alleged perpetrator turned out to be heavily intoxicated – an alcohol test showed a blood alcohol content of 1.74. “He is currently being held by the police,” said Gass.
