Merry Christmas! Homeowners in the Tyrolean Grinzens (Innsbruck-Land district) could not have missed this “Christmas surprise”. A landslide caused a wall in their property to collapse.
Around noon, the wall came loose on a higher ground and toppled. As a result, stones and masses of earth fell into the garden below, taking vegetation with them. As the police confirmed to the “Krone”, no one was injured.
According to the executive, the cause of the landslide was the heavy rains of recent days, “which drenched the slope so that it slowly slid down along with the concrete wall, endangering the houses below.”
Grinzen’s mayor, Anton Bucher, inspected the site with the state geologist and then issued an entry warrant. The fire service has secured the embankment against further ingress of water, so that it cannot sink any further.
