The arctic storm, which is hitting the United States and Canada, has sent thermometers plummeting and brought heavy snowfall to the east of the continent.

At least 22 persons died in USA due to the Elliot storm, of extremely low temperatures, hitting the eastern half of the North American continent.
The storm, a cyclone bomb caused by an arctic air front, has been causing freezing temperatures since Thursday Canada to Texas, in addition to heavy snowfall, high winds and rain over most of the area.
According to information collected by the American television network CNN, eight people died in Ohio, three in Kansas, New York and Kentucky, two in Colorado and one each in Missouri, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
Also more than 315,000 homes and businesses are without power because of the storms. At a time of increased travel, over Christmas, more than 3,300 flights have been canceled on Christmas Eve and 800 on Christmas Day so far.
According to US media, weather forecasts suggest that the storm will bring heavy snowfall, blizzards and even flooding in some parts of the northeast coast in the coming hours. At the moment there is no ceasefire in sight until after Christmas Day.
