Dangerous scenes took place on the Fernpass in Tyrol on Sunday evening: while driving, the car of a 21-year-old suddenly caught fire. A witness responded with presence of mind and pulled the startled woman out of the car.
The 21-year-old Serb was driving on the B179 Fernpassstraße towards Innsbruck at around 7:30 p.m. when the vehicle caught fire in Biberwier municipality (Reutte district).
Witness brought woman to safety
The young woman stopped the car on the side of the road – but apparently stayed put. “A witness then immediately called the fire brigade and removed the frightened driver from the vehicle,” said the police.
To the hospital for examination
She was then taken by ambulance to the Reutte district hospital for a check-up. The alarmed fire brigade was able to quickly extinguish the fire. The cause may have been a technical defect. There was massive damage to the car.
