2022 was the hottest year on record in Italy. The National Research Council (CNR) reports this on Tuesday. Both in terms of maximum and average temperatures.
However, 2018 remains the record year for the lowest temperatures in Italy, said climatologist and CNR director Bernardo Gozzini. Globally, however, 2016 is still the warmest year since records began, followed by the particularly warm years 2020 and 2019. Italy currently recorded particularly mild temperatures during the Christmas holidays. High temperatures of around 17 degrees were recorded in Rome on Tuesday.
Warmest October ever recorded
After the warmest summer, Europe also experienced the warmest October since measurements began this year, according to the EU climate change service Copernicus. On average, temperatures were almost two degrees above the average of the reference period 1991 to 2020.
