An Italian bishop misplaced his alarm clock and overslept during the traditional Christmas Eve Mass. However, the mass in Vittorio Veneto did not have to be canceled: the head of the diocesan office for liturgy intervened without further ado.
Bishop Corrado Pizziolo had decided to take a nap after dinner. He said he wanted to set the alarm for 10:50pm but got it at 10:50am the next day. “At one point I heard a knock on the door and an assistant came in who was afraid something might have happened to me,” said Pizziolo.
Apologies to the believers
It was then too late to get to the service in time. This was then celebrated by Mirco Miotto, head of the diocesan office of liturgy. The bishop of Vittorio Veneto in northern Italy came to the church after Mass and apologized to the faithful. “We shouldn’t be afraid of our own weaknesses,” he said. He was very sorry that he had let the churchgoers down, he explained.
