Doctor kisses his husband, is thrown out of a taxi

Date:

A well-known Viennese doctor was promptly thrown out of a taxi in the federal capital for kissing his partner in the car. The doctor expresses his anger at the “Krone”, the taxi company regrets it – and wants to “clear up” the incident.

Unsuspectingly, the well-known doctor Christopher Wolf (56) and his partner ordered a taxi on the evening of Stefani Day to get home quickly and safely. But after only a few meters the journey was over. Because he kissed his other half!

“During the ride, the taxi driver told me not to kiss my husband or get out,” says Wolf. Then they had to leave the taxi. But worse was to come.

The chief physician and cardiologist immediately contacted taxi headquarters to vent his anger and order a new taxi. But the employee only told him that she also hates gays. The next shock. Wolf is disappointed and angry.

At the request of “Krone”, the taxi company is remorseful. “It is with regret that we recently learned of the incident. We take very seriously any incident that violates our high quality standards, so we will explain the matter in detail.”

Addendum: “However, I can assure you that neither homophobia nor Islamophobia will find a place in our company! As a travel agency, we stop all cooperation with companies that do not meet this requirement. Employees who violate this principle will invariably bear the consequences under employment law. As a traditional Viennese taxi company, we have stood for openness, diversity and tolerance for decades and will continue to provide our service to society in the future.”

Taxi drivers and companies are right
But both the taxi driver and the company are right. Several laws prohibit discrimination in access to services and the supply of goods. In case of violation of these rules, there is a risk of administrative fines, proceedings before the Equal Treatment Commission or claims for damages. But: sexual orientation is not protected against discrimination in Austria.

“To this day, Austria is one of the last EU countries where gays, lesbians and bisexuals are not protected against discrimination in private life. We have been demanding for years that precisely such discrimination in taxis, but also in pubs or when looking for an apartment, should finally be banned,” said Mario Linder, member of the National Council (SPÖ) and president of SoHo. Deputy Mayor Christoph Wiederkehr’s office would not comment on “Krone’s” request, citing no background knowledge.
