Instead of Christmas greetings, the doctor’s office accidentally sent cancer diagnoses

Date:

Just before Christmas, a doctor’s office in northern England accidentally sent cancer diagnoses to patients. Christmas greetings were planned instead. Many of those affected reacted angrily to the text message.

Carl Chegwin posted a screenshot of the text to Facebook and wrote, “Another big mistake by crappy doctors.” Another user even said that everyone in Askern received this message. According to The Sun newspaper, numerous patients at the doctor’s office in Askern near Doncaster did indeed receive the text message containing the cancer diagnosis just before the holiday season. “Diagnosis – Aggressive lung cancer with metastases” read in it.

A patient was waiting for a result
One recipient of the message was actually waiting for the results of a lung cancer test. Chris Reed, 57, told the newspaper he immediately tried to call the practice but the phone was always busy. He then went to the practice himself and found that his tests were negative.

Shortly after the text, the practice sent another message to all recipients with an apology. The diagnosis was “accidentally” sent. Our message to you should be: We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
