Water rescuers immediately on the scene – man floated unconscious in the freezing cold inn after a fall

Date:

Dramatic rescue of a 56-year-old from the inn near Kufstein (Tyrol) on Tuesday: Water rescuer Jürgen Kapella has his office in Germany – and yet he was close to the scene of the accident and quickly on the scene. The background to the incident is initially puzzling.

The national border has not played a role for almost two decades when the 57-year-old from Kiefersfelden practices with water rescue colleagues from Kufstein – or has to move to an emergency on Tuesday afternoon! “The alarm reached me in my office, which is in the former border building,” says Kapella. Grabbing his life jacket, he ran across the track and saw a police patrol on the scene. A passer-by had sounded the alarm because a man had been lying in the inn. “He must have fallen over the dike and hit his head. Then he floated unconscious about 15 meters in the water,” Kapella summarizes the descriptions of the first responder. He had already pulled the victim out of the water.

Lost cap and traces of blood found
“The man did not respond, we attended to him until rescuers arrived, he clearly had a head injury.” The lost cap and traces of blood pointed to the exact spot of the fall. The man was taken to Kufstein Hospital and is in intensive care.

Usually facing dead rescues
But why was the man there? The police have not yet been able to question him and have not yet been able to clarify the background of the incident. The identity of the victim is now clear: it concerns a 56-year-old Amsterdammer. “I wish him a full recovery,” Kapella says. Otherwise, the water savior usually faces dead rescues from the inn.
