Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva will take office president of Brazil this afternoon in Brasilia, amid strict security measures. One of the challenges facing the leader of the leftis there that of completely closing the door to the Bolsonaro era, realizing that the far right has made many strides in recent years.
Lula da Silva’s inauguration ceremony begins at 3 p.m. in Brasilia and at 7 p.m. in Euskal Herria.
There they are waiting for one twenty heads of state and nearly 300,000 people. It won’t be there though, the hitherto president Jair Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro did not accept the election results and went to Florida (United States) on the eve of the end of his term to avoid putting on the presidential sash.
Brazilians have taken to the streets to celebrate Lula’s return. Thousands of supporters have arrived in Brasilia by bus, plane or bicycle to celebrate the return of the left to power.
They denounce that Bolsonaro’s far right has violated rights and increased poverty and are confident that things will improve in the new era.
