Another accident in Vienna – a firecracker exploded in hand: two children were injured

Date:

And again two young people are injured after a fireworks explosion in Vienna. Two boys, aged just twelve and thirteen, touched a firecracker in Liesing on Monday night – it exploded in the hand of one of the two children. The boys had to be taken to hospital with injuries and burns.

The accident happened on Breitenfurter Straße at the corner of Knotzenbachgasse. The fireworks were held in the 12-year-old’s hand and exploded, Vienna’s professional rescue service told the APA. In addition to injuries to the hand, the child also sustained injuries to the abdomen and upper body. His 13-year-old friend also suffered burns to his upper body, but also to his face.

“The patients were treated for pain by the professional rescue service and the Samaritan Association and then taken to hospital,” said rescue spokesman Andreas Huber.

Series of serious fireworks accidents in Vienna
The incident is part of a series of fireworks accidents around the turn of the year. On the afternoon of New Year’s Day in Hernals, a 13-year-old man suffered serious injuries to his hand. Moments later, a firecracker exploded too close to the body of a twelve-year-old.

In Vienna, two people were already seriously injured by fireworks explosions on New Year’s Eve. A 23-year-old suffered serious hand injuries, the professional rescue service reported Sunday, as well as an 18-year-old who accidentally picked up a firecracker, after which it exploded in his hand.
