The Russian army’s ceasefire over the Orthodox Christmas holiday, described by Ukraine and its Western backers as a “propaganda gesture”, came into effect at 10:00 CET on Friday. But it is a unilateral ceasefire, because the Kiev government, as reported, did not agree to it. Russian ex-president Dmitry Medvedev responded with wild insults to this refusal.
According to Medvedev, the Russian leadership has extended the “hand of Christian charity” to the Ukrainians. This was rejected, also because the West did not allow the Christmas peace. The current deputy chief of Russia’s Security Council called Ukrainian politicians “pigs” on his Telegram channel.
“Uneducated Woman Baerbock”
The 57-year-old also attacked German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock in this context. “Even the uneducated woman Baerbock and a number of other overseers in the European pigsty managed to grumble about the impermissibility of a ceasefire,” wrote a confidante of Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin. “Pigs have no faith or an innate sense of gratitude. They only understand brute force and demand squeaky food from their masters,” Medvedev continued.
The politician, who was once considered relatively liberal, has been trying to distinguish himself as a hardliner against the West since the beginning of the Russian offensive war against Ukraine with his statements. In addition, he recently tried to underline his role after Putin’s term in office with a visit to Chinese President Xi Jinping. The reception at Xi meant a major upgrade for Medvedev.
