The spectacular recovery by a transport helicopter of the emergency doctor helicopter Christophorus 1, which stranded in the Tyrolean Axamer Lizum on Friday, is said to have been preceded by a dramatic landing maneuver.
“After landing, a warning light came on. A further flight was no longer possible. There are strict rules in aviation.” For example, Ralph Schüller, spokesman for the ÖAMTC air rescue service, explained last weekend why Christophorus 1 got stuck in the Axamer Lizum ski area on Friday and eventually had to be rescued in a spectacular way.
Of course – as the “Tiroler Krone” was able to discover, there had been a delicate incident before during the landing attempt.
Helicopter slid backwards
“The helicopter slid backwards on landing,” Schüller confirmed Monday. “The situation was uncomfortable, but it was defused by the pilot’s correct response,” says Schüller.
However, it came to his so-called mast moment overload. The helicopter was then no longer allowed to be used due to strict regulations. Therefore, the ÖAMTC air rescue had to request a cargo helicopter, which flew the defective C 1 from the middle station of the Hoadlbahn cable car down into the valley.
A truck was waiting there to transport the helicopter to the shipyard in Innsbruck. Fortunately there were no injuries.
