The Russian government has assured that the dynamics of the peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine “leaves much to be desired”. Meanwhile, a member of the Ukrainian delegation has warned that the Russian offensive in Donbass will affect the negotiation process.
The UN Special Mediator for Ukraine and the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths, have acknowledged that a timely humanitarian ceasefire in certain regions “is not on the horizon at this time”.
“There is no ceasefire on the horizon at the moment, but it could be in a few weeks. Maybe a little longer,” Griffiths said at a news conference from UN headquarters in New York in recent hours.
Griffiths plans to travel to Turkey this week to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to seek formulas for the UN to support the negotiation process between Ukraine and Russia.
The Russian government has assured that the momentum of peace negotiations with Ukraine to end the conflict “leaves much to be desired”. “The position changes often and of course the dynamics of progress in the negotiation process leave a lot to be desired,” he said, although he assured that “expert level” contacts will continue as part of the negotiation process.
On the other hand, a member of the Ukrainian delegation and adviser to the Ukrainian presidency, Mijailo Podoliak, has warned that the Russian offensive in Donbass could affect contacts.
