Due to shortage of doctors – lure scholarship: study with health insurance contract

Date:

The shortage of doctors in Vienna is dire. A new grant from the Austrian regional health insurance fund promises relief.

Anyone who currently needs to go to the doctor must have stamina, both physically and figuratively. Given the long waiting times for an appointment and the conditions in the city clinics, ailing health is also not recommended. Because in many disciplines, doctors with health insurance are rare.

These are urgently needed by the health insurer. In the individual districts, even politicians are already looking for medical help. The Austrian health insurance fund (ÖGK) is now opting for a new approach to combat the serious shortage of panel doctors.

Monthly 923 euros – but there are obligations
Starting next semester, the ÖGK will award scholarships to medical students who want to work as panel doctors later on. All students from the third year of study in the field of general practice, paediatrics and youth medicine, gynecology and obstetrics as well as psychiatry are included.

The application for the first 50 ÖGK scholarships ends on February 12, 2023. The funding will be spread over a maximum of 42 months. For this waved 923 euros per month. However, everyone who takes advantage of the scholarship undertakes to take out a health insurance contract for at least five years in an Austrian region in need after the vocational training.
