When a 41-year-old Iraqi woman was attacked with a knife in Linz on Monday, the Romanian’s 11-year-old daughter may have saved her mother. On Tuesday, the woman in the hospital described the detectives’ struggle to survive against her aggressive husband. He remains silent.
As the assaulted woman described to officials at the hospital, she wanted to leave the house with her daughter on Monday morning. Suddenly her husband, against whom a judicial entry and approach ban applies, stood in the door and pushed the two back into the apartment.
He strangled the woman, after which the daughter jumped at her stepfather and tried to stop him. He then stabbed his wife three more times with a knife, wounding her abdomen, chest and upper arm.
Perpetrator is silent
However, she managed to get hold of her mobile phone and called the police. When the man noticed this, he fled. According to the police, the daughter could have saved the mother through her intervention. The management also emphasizes that the Romanian woman did not let the man into the apartment herself.
However, the interrogation of the alleged perpetrator did not reveal anything new. He initially denied everything and then remained silent about the matter. In any case, he had often been noticed for violence against women. On Tuesday evening he was transferred to the prison in Linz.
