Against “slander” – Renters of Italian gas stations went on strike for two days

Date:

Gas station tenants in Italy have announced a two-day strike. Protests against a “slander campaign” will be held on January 25 and 26. They would be responsible for arbitrary increases in fuel prices.

“In order to end this smear campaign against a group of honest workers and restore the truth, the gas station operator associations have collectively decided to call a first strike. The strike is linked to a demonstration in front of the Chamber of Deputies in Rome,” said a statement by the gas station tenants’ associations on Thursday. the tank rebate introduced by the Italian government will come to an end.

financial police checked
Currently, the Financial Police are conducting statewide checks to prevent unwarranted increases in gas station fuel prices. The government asked them to investigate petrol and diesel prices to investigate speculation and possible anti-competitive agreements. “We want to check if someone speculates on petrol prices and raises them in an unjustified way,” said Transport and Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini.

Prices from 2.5 euros per litre
The government led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also wants to intervene in the motorway concessions and especially the operators of the petrol stations on the motorways to keep prices under control. The consumer organization Codacons had previously complained that the fuel price at some motorway service stations had risen to 2.5 euros per litre. In recent months, fuel prices have benefited from reduced consumption taxes, approved in March by Prime Minister Mario Draghi’s government and then partially confirmed by Meloni’s cabinet.

For a long time, the discount for petrol and diesel was 30.5 cents per litre. At the beginning of December, however, the discount was reduced to 18.3 cents and a month later fuel prices automatically increased because the reduced consumption taxes were not extended in the new year. The prime minister said the state could no longer fund further tank rebates.

Austria cheaper than the EU average
In Austria, a liter of diesel cost an average of 1,685 euros at the beginning of the year, slightly below the EU average. The diesel price was highest in Sweden and Finland. At the beginning of the year, Eurosuper in Germany cost 1,492 euros per litre, which was also slightly cheaper than the EU average. Here it was most expensive in Denmark and Finland, the lowest petrol prices were in Bulgaria, Slovenia and Romania.
