Lost Track – Missing drove away from sniffer dogs on a tram

Date:

They had successfully picked up the scent and followed it for hundreds of meters, but then even the best sniffer dogs lost track of a missing person in Linz. Apparently he had taken the tram away from them. But in the end everything worked out.

A 56-year-old Turkish national from Enns has disappeared from MedCampus III, the former AKH Linz, where he was to be treated on an outpatient basis at noon on Friday.

The niece, worried about the uncle, sought him out through messages on social networks. And indeed, at 9:35 p.m., someone who had seen the missing person near Karl-Steiger-Straße reported. Several police patrols and service dog handlers took part in the search that followed. Several dog squads (rescue dogs) were also deployed, with seven dog handlers and a total of ten dogs participating in the search.

The niece made the clothes of the missing person available to the helpers and the dogs picked up the scent, which they could follow to the tram stop at the shopping center of Auwiesen. There she got lost, presumably the person she was looking for got into a punt, and that meant the four-legged sleuths had no chance to follow the trail. The police search ended at 12:30 p.m. The dog brigade searched the other tram stops.

But in the end it was the good eye of a police officer that ensured success: the missing person was finally found by officers from the Hörsching police station in Leonding at a bus stop and safely handed over to his niece.
