Sad certainty – Vienna: author Ulrich Weinzierl died in a fire drama

Date:

Literary critic Ulrich Weinzierl died tragically on Friday the 13th in his apartment in Vienna’s Josefstadt.

The news that the well-known Viennese writer and journalist Ulrich Weinzierl passed away suddenly on Friday at the age of 68 caused great consternation in the cultural scene. Over the course of his career, Weinzierl wrote biographies of Arthur Schnitzler, Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Stefan Zweig and was considered a specialist in Alfred Polgar.

As it has now been leaked, the literary critic died on Friday the 13th of all days in a fire at his apartment in Josefstadt – a date widely believed to be the day when most accidents can happen. When firefighters arrived, they found a man’s lifeless body. For him, all help came too late.

DNA testing
A DNA test should provide final, sad certainty that the victim of the fire is the author. The Germanist was a son of the physicist Peter Weinzierl and the historian Erika Weinzierl. He received, among other things, the State Prize for Literature Criticism.
