Macron starts as favourite, Le Pen brings the lesson learned

Date:

Tomorrow, Wednesday, Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen will face each other in the televised election debate. Important agreement for both, that by not having enough voters themselves to reach the Elysee, they will have to convince those of other parties.

Emmanuel Macron Yes Marine LePen many of his tricks are played to win the presidency of France television debate in the morning, Wednesday, that could be the key in next Sunday’s election.

Neither candidate has enough fervent supporters to bring them to power next Sunday. So the objectively of both for this second round and, more specifically, for tomorrow’s debate, it will be convince voters that the other candidate is worse.

The outgoing Liberal president and far-right leader are today focusing on preparing for this important duel and have not planned any public events, which will see them face a confrontation that could be much more decisive than that of five years ago.

The polls agree macron slightly increased his lead over Le Pen since the first lap (the average is now 55.2% vs. 44.8%, so he goes straight into the debate as the favourite.

But neither is in a position to trust each other. Crucial to the outcome is what the left-wing voters do, and so is the abstention rate, which is estimated at 26%. Macron’s style and policies have upset many on the left and it will be harder for him than in 2017 to gain enough support to keep the far right out of power. He will try to use tomorrow’s debate to win back that dissatisfied vote and mobilize the votes of those who doubt whether or not they will vote.

The 2017 launch ended with an overwhelming victory for the current president, according to all analysts and the media. Partly on his own merit, partly because of the poor performance of Le Pen, whose unfortunate expressions and tones showed a dislocated Le Pen, without the prestige of a head of state.

Le Pen come on now better prepared than five years ago. He has already suggested he would spend two full days preparing because “it is an important moment” after realizing last week that the debate five years ago was “the biggest failure” of his political career.

His conduct in the campaign, ignoring awkward and controversial issues, suggests he can focus his debate tomorrow in the same more conciliatory and serene tone, compared to the misguided Le Pen of five years ago.

All options are open, anyone can win, anyone can lose.
