Medvedev was arrested on Friday in Norway near the Russian border – he is suspected of entering the country illegally, police said. His escape from Russia was adventurous: in an interview with the Russian human rights organization gulagu.net, he reported that he had been chased by dogs and men of the Russian secret service FSB. An attempt was made to shoot him before he managed to escape to Norway near the Russian settlement of Nikel in the northwest of the country.

The ex-mercenary has applied for asylum, his lawyer says to the newspaper “Verdens Gang”. He is in a normal asylum procedure and is doing well with him given the circumstances. He is in a center for delinquent migrants in Oslo.
