In the course of the allegations against the actor Florian Teichtmeister for possessing images of sexual abuse by minors, another actor is now in the picture, who was also in the cast of “Corsage”. He is accused of sexual harassment.
The actor was “several times noticed for sexual harassment”, reports the “Standard”. However, the allegations do not relate to the shooting of Marie Kreutzer’s film. According to a spokeswoman for the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office, no proceedings are pending in this case. A spokesman for the production company Film AG stressed on Tuesday: “Of course we take such allegations seriously, even if they have nothing directly to do with the production of the film ‘Corsage’.”
The director wanted to get to the bottom of rumors
Director Marie Kreutzer discussed this in detail last summer. “She was already getting to the bottom of the rumors with both the actor and many whistleblowers. Yesterday we had another extensive conversation with the actor. This conversation also did not provide us with any new information.”
The Trust Office against Intimidation and Violence in Art, Culture and Sport (“vera*”) points out that no information can be given about current cases. The IG authors warn against “general accountability for others involved in productions”: “On the one hand, with a search for co-responsibility and complicity, the cause threatens to become independent in the media and politics and distract from the problem of struggle against child pornography, which has not been adequate for decades, on the other hand, productions in which Teichtmeister participated may no longer be played.”
Pond Master Ban Warning
There are “hundreds and hundreds of people involved in these productions, all of whom are now placed under the Teichtmeister ban,” says Gerhard Ruiss. “It is urgent to deal with the matter in a responsible manner in all directions, which cannot include general liability for other artists and cultural workers.”
Clarification by lawyer
Meanwhile, constitutional judge and attorney Michael Rami, who represents Teichtmeister in media law cases, took to Twitter to respond to his rulings last Friday. For example, Rami was criticized by the association Autonomous Austrian Women’s Shelters (AÖF) for speaking of a “purely digital crime”. “In view of this trivialization of serious real crimes, we demand that a constitutional judge, as the guardian of the rule of law, cannot at the same time be the lawyer of a sex offender,” it said in an AÖF broadcast.
In a multi-part “clarification,” Rami wrote on Twitter: “In my statement on the case, I stated that Florian Teichmeister was charged by the StA with possession of such images within the meaning of the law (‘digital crime’), but that he NOT was accused of personal child abuse. This term (‘digital crime’) does not come from me, but from jurisprudence.” It is clear “for everyone that behind such photos are real victims, namely abused children, and that the demand for such photos fuels the supply, so always new crimes,” says Rami. It is precisely for this reason that Article 207a of the Penal Code came into effect in 1994 and has been tightened up several times in subsequent amendments to the law. Postscript: “I’m a father myself, by the way.”
