Tragic traffic accident in the middle of Vienna: A pedestrian was hit by a car late on Tuesday evening. The 29-year-old was fatally injured.
According to police spokeswoman Barbara Gass, the accident happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Parkring and Johannesgasse in the city center. A 56-year-old driver translated the intersection on the Parkring, the passer-by came from the Johannesgasse and wanted to cross the ring towards Heumarkt.
The 29-year-old was hit by the car. Resuscitation attempts by the professional rescue service with the support of the professional fire brigade came too late. The traffic accident service took over the surveys. According to initial findings, the traffic light would have been green for the driver.
Also wounded in Donaustadt and Simmering
Other accidents – not fatal – occurred in Donaustadt and in Simmering. Shortly before 6 p.m. in Donaustadt, an 81-year-old was hit by a car in Schüttaustrasse, driven by an 85-year-old, and taken to hospital with serious injuries by the professional rescue service. In Simmeringer Hauptstrasse, a 41-year-old driver with his car, coming out of a gas station, hit a 26-year-old moped rider, who was slightly injured. The driver had drunk 1.06 promille and was probably also under the influence of narcotics. The 41-year-old refused to be checked by a doctor.
