Climate activists of the last generation disrupted a show during Berlin Fashion Week on Wednesday. About ten minutes into designer Anja Gockel’s show, two women jumped up and held up banners. They were then escorted outside and the event continued.
Under the motto “Seven Senses” Gockel had presented their winter collection in the hotel “Adlon”. Also at the event were climate activists from the group Last Generation – Melli and Carla, according to the group’s Twitter account. According to a dpa reporter, they jumped up and held up banners about ten minutes into the event.
“It’s Time to Decide”
“We can no longer afford this ‘normality’,” says the video the group shot during Berlin Fashion Week (January 16 to 21). It shows a peaceful protest as models present the designer’s collection. “We are the last generation before the tipping points. It’s time to decide: do we stave off the collapse or glamorously go over the edge?
Designer responded positively
According to the protest group, the designer responded positively to the action. “The protesters are welcome to use my stage for good purposes,” she said.
No strangers
The last generation has been organizing regular campaigns in Berlin for months to get politicians to take more action against the climate crisis. In Austria, the action group is known, among other things, for remaining penniless and attacks on paintings. The requirements include a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour on highways and the abolition of fossil fuels.
The name was chosen because the members would belong to the last generation that might still be able to stop “the total collapse of the earth”.
